Palace Greens, Chennai

In record time and closely-monitored budget, Hemstock Design have designed and construction-managed the new 9-hole, 5,250 yard equivalent resort stylegolf course at the prestige ‘Palace Gardens’ residential development, by developer HIRCO (Hiranandani Group).

The course is situated adjacent to the new international vehicle manufacturing area ofthe rapidly expanding Oragadam, on the outskirts of Chennai, south India. Concept work started in December 2011,with construction now nearing completion in August 2012.

Though relatively short, the course has all the features of a championship layout, with serious bunkering, lots of shaping, tricky greens, and several lakes. It is going to be a popular place to play. Aimed at the facility-starved local, and visiting international golfer, the course has been designed with strategic golf in mind, ease and speed of play for those with a busy lifestyle, and the ‘must try it again’ factor.

Within the basic 9-hole layout, there are other variant layouts which the Golf Pro can fit to the golfer’srequirements. Several teeing positions to mix Par 3 with Par 4, 3 and 6-hole loops, even a cross-hole option for corporate hire golf events.

There is also a 12-bay driving range with canopy roof and replica target greens and bunkers, a large practice putting green, and other chipping and practice areas.

The well-equipped Pro-Shop with gym and business centre facilities overlooks the course, with a buggy shuttle to the golf academy. The course is grassed with golf-bred Paspalum, a newly developed golf grass capable of taking all

kinds of water quality, and features a natural rough of indigenous grasses, used this creatively for the first time in India.
