Historic Projects

Ashbourne Golf Club, Derbyshire

David Hemstock worked closely with the Club over several years to identify course extension options, and ultimately to relocate to a block of farmland adjacent to the original course site.

The new course incorporated the original very cramped and sloping 9-hole course and extended to a 150-acre site for a top-class 18-holes and practice facilities.  The new course features high-specification greens to modified USGA standard, and an interesting, strategic and very varied course layout.

Legend has it the Oliver Cromwell and his army fired on the town during the Civil War, from the position of the now 9th green!

The Manor Golf Course, Leeds

Originally arable farmland and a rhubarb-growing farm for the Christmas market, the Cook brothers, Bill and Eric, made the brave decision to abandon farming and move into the leisure industry in the early 1990's.  Having visited David Hemstock's new Springwater GC in Nottingham, the brothers commissioned David to design their 18-hole course. The Manor GC opened in 1994, and has become a well-established and profitable Club, with thriving corporate and social functions in the huge and well-appointed Clubhouse.

Regional championships have been held on their, and the Club has become a successful coaching centre.  The facilities include an 18-bay range and very popular family 6-hole academy layout.  The website features a detailed review of the main course
